My Experience Eating Raw Foods

For a while I haven’t shared much when it comes to my experience eating raw. In this video I talk about how I’m doing eating raw foods, how I’m giving up coffee and the tools I’m using to help support me.

Raw food resources:

Oh and in case you’re curious, here’s one of my favorite raw food recipes:

Thanks for going over how you work out your diet with your wife, Jonathan.

I’ve been a 1/2 time vegetarian for almost a year now and am considering making the full switch this year. My girlfriend does the 1/2 time diet with me right now and enjoys it, but she’s a food fanatic and is not too interested in completely giving up meat.

It sounds like she’s a lot like your wife in that she shows affection by making awesome food and I’ve been trying to figure out how I can make the switch without affecting our relationship negatively.

Perhaps a little more compromise is in order.

Hallelujah – On Health should not be stressful. :) I completely agree.

I love what you mentioned about not having to change your coffee ritual. That is a big piece of it too.

I am so happy to see you both video blogging and watching you progress through the high raw journey. Keep up the awesome enjoyment/experiment of food. :)

Great video!! Thanks a lot. I’ve started eating raw and had the same issues… some conflicts with my family who eat cooked food… so I think the same, we donĀ“t have to get stressed, just try to stay high raw as much as possible.
    Love your blogs! So inspiring!

Thanks for the video & the insights on your raw food journey. I return to raw foods frequently (though not consistently), simply because I really don’t like to cook, and throwing together a big salad or grabbing an apple is often much more appealing than preparing a recipe. I love that you mention how eating foods that are prepared with love is generally better than stressing out about the food. Great, balanced perspective & too easily forgotten.

A note about the video–I thought you did well. Personally, I prefer a video that feels real and conversational and a bit off the cuff to a video that feels overly “prepped” or polished. I like feeling like maybe I’m sitting down with the person & having a chat, which is how I think your video comes across. So count me in as someone who’s glad you’re pushing out of the comfort zone & doing more video.

Great post. I’ve turned raw and blogged about it recently too. It’s been a real rollercoaster of a month to be honest. It’s a really tough transition.

I love this… the courage you show to step out of your comfort zones with (raw food) eating AND (video) blogging. A double-scoop of leaping goodness :-) And, somehow, it’s not too hard to see how they complement each other. Video and raw food are both near the extreme ends of transparency… there’s so little to hide behind with them. Much respect to you for sharing your double-journey, and doing so with grace and compassion. This is a very inspiring example. Thank you.

Nice job on your first video, you did pretty well and relaxed as the session went on.

You mention one of my favorite vices in the video (coffee), how do you spell the replacement you are using? Something like “tie chino”.

    Thanks for everything!

I was wondering the same thing but after a little online hunting, I found it. It’s spelled “teeccino” and you can find this stuff at any Whole Foods.

You are right about the food made with love.

The most important dietary change that most Americans can make to increase their health is to eat less. Americans, on average, eat too much.

It’s good to hear your voice and hear how you’ve been experimenting.

Your video is very timely for me. It seems like the more resolved I am to transition to raw eating, the more that resources and advice comes my way. But you know how that is ;-) I just discovered Nathalie’s website literally 2 days ago, so I’ll check out her resources. Thanks for sharing.

Like Marissa mentioned, your video came across as a conversation instead of a ‘video’. I love doing vids and need to do more myself, hopefully the more you vlog the more you’ll feel comfortable too.

I agree! Eating food that somebody cooks for you with love is very important too ^_^

Good job with the video!!!! Yayy!

    Hey Jonathan,

I think it’s great that you’re giving up coffee. Now you can get addicted to Green Tea like the rest of us. :)

    Good job brother!

I’m transitioning towards as much raw.. as I want! But I remember you referred me to Nathalie’s site after I asked you about being raw on Twitter, so thank you for that :]

    Hi Jonathan.
I can relate. My bf is a dedicated meat eater with no interest in raw, and I’m a lifelong veggie. Most of the time when we eat together it’s takeaway :/

Funnily enough I did a 30 day raw back in February 09, but being just before winter in Oz, the cold weather threw me, and I’m just now getting back to where I want to be with it. I did do a lot of research, and had it followed medically & by a naturopath because I got sponsors and used it to raise funds for a flood disaster down here at the time.

One site that you mustn’t have come across yet, from the problems you mentioned with fancy recipes. I LOVE his take on raw food – his ‘how to guide’ on raw secrets is mindblowing and the uncookbook ‘instant raw sensations’ has some fantastic, quick and even 2 ingredient recipes you can really live on. No fancy equipment needed. It lives in my kitchen and never even makes it back up to the shelf. Check it out at http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/cmd.php?Clk=3622653

PPS I accidentally gave up coffee Nov 08 after reading a Steve Pavlina post about how it’s a plant defence against pests, being a neurotoxin, and spending a day joking around about getting or drinking my cup of pesticide. Funnily enough by the next day, I really didn’t want any, and I haven’t since. And this was in the middle of a 30 day trial of waking up early (3 or 4 am!)

    Best wishes,
    Crystal
